Section 52, Braddon ACT
Positioned between the Canberra Centre, Gorman Arts Centre and Braddon’s cultural precinct, Section 52 is set to revitalise Canberra’s CBD. The site will house over 600 apartments and include a dynamic mix of social, cultural and commercial spaces.
JWLand purchased the Section 52 site at a public auction conducted by the Land Development Agency (LDA) in February 2016. The conditions of sale for the site included an approved and endorsed ACT Government Estate Development Plan (EDP).
The development will consist of buildings ranging from three to 12 storeys and be designed to create flow and synergy between existing retail and dining precincts in and around the Canberra Centre and Braddon.
The EDP subdivides the Section 52 site into two large blocks with a linking road between Batman Street and Petrie Street. These blocks will be developed in two stages.
Construction is due to commence in 2017.

The original Development Application (DA) for Stage 1 was lodged in November 2016. It responded to the requirements of the EDP and the terms of the current Territory Plan. After receiving submissions from the local community in response to the DA, JWLand opted to amend the DA under Section 144 of the Planning and Development Act (2007) and to engage in further community consultation regarding the proposed design in order to ensure that the development proposal delivers the best possible outcome for the future residents and users of the site.
